To enter The Icebind, finish Angels of the Zariman and Whispers in the Walls, and unlock either Elite Deep Archimedea or Elite Temporal Archimedea. Collect a Cryobell at Yuvan Peak, then speak to Cephalon Melica to form the special squad. Successful completion guarantees a Riven Splicer, with chest rewards added through the mission's key system.

The mode launched in Update 44.1.0 on October 7, 2026. This guide incorporates Hotfix 44.1.1, including its voting change and removal of Cryo Core throwing. Sources were checked October 13; the launch name Glacial Defiance has been replaced by The Icebind.

01

Check access before assembling a squad

The Elite Archimedea requirement is unlocked, not necessarily completed. Alongside the two quests, that is the official access gate. If Melica does not offer the expected mission flow, check those progression requirements before assuming that a missing Cryobell is the only problem.

Icebind is designed around six-player squads, and only one of each Warframe can enter. The official launch notes state that it has no public matchmaking. The host forms this squad through Melica's Ring a Cryobell screen, rather than by trying to extend an ordinary mission squad.

Coordinate distinct Warframes before the countdown. Hotfix 44.1.1 closed a loophole involving duplicate Warframes and loadout changes, so an older trick for bypassing that rule is not a valid preparation step. Pick a squad whose members can contribute under the displayed restrictions.

02

Claim Cryobells and understand the entry budget

Cryobells form at the ice pillar atop Yuvan Peak. The official rules provide three new Cryobells per week, with up to six unused bells stockpiled. Three is the replenishment amount; the stockpile lets saved entries carry forward up to the cap.

The notes describe replenishment at the weekly reset. Check the live timer when planning around a particular day or time zone, rather than treating a local Sunday/Monday label as a universal clock. A Cryobell is consumed only after successful extraction, according to the launch rules.

Each participant selects a Cryobell in the mission interface. Invited squad members are summoned to Yuvan Peak and must also speak to Melica to enter that flow. Having only the host open the screen is not the full start procedure described in the official instructions.

03

Choose both the mission and your Personal Bind

A Cryobell contains a mission type, planet, enemy type, Mission Bind, Tactical Bind, and Personal Bind. The squad votes on which offered mission to play. However, your own selected Cryobell's Personal Bind applies to you even when another player's mission wins the vote.

That means you should inspect two things before readying: whether your Personal Bind works with your loadout, and whether the proposed squad mission is manageable for everyone. Voting for an easier mission does not automatically remove your own modifier.

After Hotfix 44.1.1, the voting timer starts when the host starts it, or automatically after three players have voted. Use the available discussion time to compare restrictions and roles. Do not copy the initial launch instruction that the timer always begins as soon as everyone selects a bell.

04

Expect a demanding version of familiar objectives

The mission can be Survival, Mobile Defense, Excavation, or Disruption, depending on the chosen bell. The official baseline includes level 999+ enemies, strengthened enemy defenses, reduced full Shield Gate immunity duration, longer companion recovery, and a three-minute cooldown on each Restore type.

Self-revives are disabled. After a player bleeds out, surviving teammates revive them through the Tombstone system by temporarily sacrificing health. Normally at least three surviving Tenno participate; if fewer than three remain, all survivors must contribute. Bleedout time also becomes shorter with repeated revives.

These rules make preparation broader than raw damage. Discuss who watches the mission objective, who can assist a downed teammate, and when the squad can safely gather for a side objective. The launch notes estimate roughly 10–15 minutes, but that is an official design estimate, not a measured clear time for your team.

05

Optional objectives can still fail the mission

Up to three Squad Side Objectives appear, marked by a purple waypoint. They are optional until you start them. Once an objective has been activated, failing it fails the mission. An available waypoint alone is not an obligation to begin.

Side objectiveCore task
LockboxCollect Cyphers from defeated enemies and bring them to the box
CryothermiaNeutralize a Cryo Core by holding it as health damage escalates
Indomitable IceConcentrate fire on ice crystals to charge them
Entropy OrbGather around the orb while avoiding damaging pulses
Signal ChainPosition Warframes to connect an energy beam between points

Use the Start prompt only when the squad is ready. The interface indicates how many players must be nearby. Mission completion will not pull you out of an already activated side objective, so starting one near the end still commits the squad to finishing it.

For Cryothermia, follow the current interaction prompts. Throwing the Cryo Core was removed in Hotfix 44.1.1, and that patch also fixed invulnerability interactions that bypassed its health damage. A guide built around throwing or nullifying the Core's mechanic is outdated.

06

Know which keys open which chests

Completing the main mission sends the squad to Melica's Glacial Laboratory. The guaranteed Riven Splicer is separate from the chest system. You also earn a Crested Frozen Key for mission completion, while each successful side objective gives a Frozen Key, up to three per mission.

KeySourceChest location and reward type
Crested Frozen KeyMain mission completionCentral Crested Frozen Chest; Kuva plus an additional reward
Frozen KeySuccessful side objectiveOuter Frozen Chests; Kuva plus an additional reward

The published chest pools include items such as Rivens, Forma-related rewards, and Archon Shards; the two pools differ. An item appearing in a pool is a possibility, not an extra guaranteed prize on every clear. This guide does not assign unpublished odds to those items or add together every listed Kuva amount.

Open the chests for which you earned keys, then follow the extraction marker. The first completed Icebind also awards the Cryobell Sumdali according to the official launch notes. If your goal is the new Mod system, continue with the Riven Splicing guide after collecting the Splicer.

07

A sensible first-clear plan

For a first attempt, agree on a manageable bell and make mission completion the shared goal. Treat a side objective as a separate squad decision: understand its task, gather the required players, and then start it. Skipping an optional objective preserves a route to the guaranteed completion reward without demanding an unfamiliar challenge at a bad moment.
